Fendi unveils an exhibition in tribute to Italian know-how.
Until the end of the month, the fashion house celebrates the gestures of the artisans of the peninsula, region by region.
Made in Italy: artistic variations around the Baguette Bag.
The weaving of tapestries from the village of Ulassai in Sardinia, lace from Nardo in Puglia, marquetry from Sorrento in Campania... So many traditional production techniques highlighted by the luxury house Fendi through an exhibition "Hand in Hand" presented these days in Rome.
Initiated last year, the project here gives rise to an eponymous event where the label's iconic Baguette bag - designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi in 1997 - nourishes a series of variations calling on around twenty skills.
Each bag - one per region - is produced in a limited edition of 20 and features the name and location of the workshop on the inside pocket, embellished with a "Fendi Hand in Hand" logo.
For this exhibition, the house – which has just unveiled its collaboration with SKIMS, the shapewear brand launched by Kim Kardashian – has imagined a route that also includes videos detailing the various production processes.
“My goal now is to explore all the Italian regions and select the best craftsmen who are still working today, then to extend the project to the whole world,” says Silvia Venturini Fendi, Artistic Director of Men's Collections and Accessories.
The exhibition is also the subject of a virtual tour presented on a dedicated page.
This initiative comes a few days after the launch of the "Hermès in The Making" event showcasing the know-how of the French house through a traveling operation.
Fendi "Hand in Hand" exhibition. Until November 28, 2021. Palazzo della Civilta Italiana, Rome. Free access by reservation.
