Mammut Courmayeur so pants pants pants test

I was able to test the Courmayeur SO Pants Women hiking and mountaineering pants from Mammut, a well-known Swiss brand of mountain equipment and clothing, during a roaming trip in Corsica alternating hiking and multi-pitch climbing during this fall of 2021. I was also able to test it several times on day trips for hiking or climbing.

A hybrid softshell pant that combines comfort and top-of-the-range technology “for ambitious mountain sports enthusiasts”! Here is my detailed test.

First impressions of the Mammut Courmayeur So Pants

When I received the Mammut Courmayeur So Pants, I found them very pleasant to the touch, solid in appearance and their cut seemed quite optimal.

Appreciating the somewhat flashy colors of mountain clothing, I was initially a little disappointed by its black color but in the end this shade goes everywhere and allowed me to combine it with any color in high, which I found very pleasant! The white brand logo positioned on the left thigh is a little too conspicuous for my taste, I prefer the discretion of the name written in full behind the right calf.

Fit/Comfort

The Courmayeur So Pants have a straight, fitted and feminine cut. It is comfortable to wear and I immediately felt comfortable in it.

The waist closure system with two press studs and a zipper is effective. The belt adjustment system using external velcro on each side of the waist allows optimal adjustment of the tightening and good support. Being rather thin, I found it very pleasant to feel supported during all the activities practiced. The pants stay in place and not having the feeling of losing your pants when you bend down while not feeling “stubby” when moving or after several hours of walking or climbing is essential for me. Comfort is one of the strengths of these pants.

The pressure-tightening system at the ankles also makes it possible to adjust according to the activity practiced: open to the widest with hiking boots, I appreciated being able to close it during long climbing routes. The snaps are quite difficult to close but allow for a secure adjustment that does not come undone.

Breathability/Thermicity

The Courmayeur So Pants are pants made for high mountains and demanding weather conditions. It provides real comfort in the face of the cold and especially the wind, while allowing good breathability. Worn during a day of hiking in Corsica alternating summit with gusts of wind and heat when we were sheltered, I appreciated feeling good all along the route. When the sun was stronger, I sometimes got hot, but the tightening system at the bottom of the pants allows them to be partly raised on the calves.

Aeration systems at the thighs could allow better breathability during climbs or on days with changeable weather.

Durability

Reinforcements in double-weave Softshell material at the seat, knees and lower legs guarantee the robustness of these pants. They provide extreme resistance to abrasion and during contact with the rock. Also worn during multi-pitch climbing, I was able to test the solidity of the Courmayeur So Pants on rock and I can confirm that after several days of practice there were no traces of scratches or snags. .

Water repellency/Impermeability

The Mammut Courmayeur So Pants have benefited from a PFC-free DWR long-lasting water repellent treatment, which gives it long-lasting dirt-repellent and water-repellent properties. Tested during rainy periods, the water repellency was optimal and I did not feel wet after two hours of walking in the rain. Drying thereafter was quick.

Finishes

The two front pockets compatible with a climbing or mountaineering harness are really practical. The leg pocket on the right thigh, robust and easy to access, allows you to store your phone or other equipment while protecting it from cold and humidity and quickly accessible. I find it very handy and have used it a lot.

Retractable attachment hooks provide effective support on hiking and mountaineering boots.

My opinion on the Mammut Courmayeur So Pants
