[Tutorial] How to adjust your ski bindings?

First outing of the year: after three quiet turns to regain confidence, you begin to attack and at the first push, your ski comes off and you finish the descent on your stomach. Since you can only rely on yourself, why not learn how to adjust your bindings?

To make this tutorial, we went to the Au Vieux Campeur store in Grenoble to get advice from Lambert, manager of the ski department.

1. Find its hull length and adjust the length of its bindings accordingly

Hull length, here 323mm

The first thing to do is find the shell length of your shoe, in millimeters, which is generally at the level of the heel. We will then adjust its binding according to the closest value noted, using the lever present or using a screwdriver, depending on the model. The shoe is engaged for the first time to check the push-on indicator.

2. Make sure that the compression indicator is in the right position

The thrust indicator will tell us if the pressure received by the binding is the right one. It is therefore necessary that he tells us the correct value, otherwise it will be difficult to trust the setting of his bindings to take off only in due time! Refer to the instructions for his binding to find proper use of the cookie.

3. Adjusting the DIN value

This is the key moment in adjusting your bindings, and the one that generally scares skiers who don't dare to adjust their bindings themselves. However, if the first part of the adjustment has been done correctly, it suffices to refer to the DIN table to find out the value corresponding to the skier.

The DIN table, to be adjusted according to the skier's profile

The adjustment, to be applied to the DIN table

This is a table with two entries: boot length and skier weight. The skier's profile then modifies the final score to give the ideal DIN, which will cause the skier to take off his shoes at the right time, in any case before your knees! Be careful, even for good skiers, it may be wise not to set too high a DIN at the start of the season so as not to risk injury while the muscles recover!
