Changing your physical appearance to seduce your sexual prey is the theme of 47 strings, Timothe Le Boucher's first opus.A formidable comic between fantastic and contemporary interrogation.
It’s a comic strip full of desire.Desires.They explode on each page and from the start of the work the dizzying, and almost silent line of Timothé le Boucher reveals the body of a mermaid, a naiad, a vampire, of a mysterious woman who will multiply, under multiple appearances to grant a desire, his, that of capturing his sexual prey that is a young man who responds to the name of Ambroise, a young harpist.He has just moved to his sister Zahidé, to try to join the same orchestra.This predator is a famous diva: Francesca Forabesco.To achieve her ends she will become Thomas, an climbing friend, Elisa a perfect girlfriend and so many others.Ready to Francesca, she will offer Ambroise 47 perverse challenges in exchange for the purchase of a new harp, 47 challenges as so many proposals inviting her to get rid of the social constraints that paralyze him.
The game of extreme desire can however be dangerous and even become a real game of dupes: the hunt becomes a hunter, the prey then doubts its true sexual inclinations and fantasies succeed fantasies.How to desire and love the one, who changes appearance constantly?The author explains (1) that the idea of the physical metamorphosis to seduce came to him from roommates who rejected, on the Tinder application, the meeting with a boy because of a tiny physical detail.Francesca will therefore have to change the appearance of multiple times until they get the one that Ambroise will no longer be able to refuse, the one that suits his desire to him.Love is no longer perceived only as an attraction of body to body, an alchemy of looks carried on shapes, skin, hair color, a silhouette.Far from the heart.
With this vertiginous abyss of the feeling of love, Timothé le Boucher takes us in the footsteps of our most secret, the most intimate, sometimes unknown impulses. The labyrinth is gigantic leading us to fine parts that make us think of the masked and disturbing evening of the film Eyes Wide Shut, or even the desire perceived as a relationship of domination when Ambroise lets himself be drawn by a traine similar to o conduct in costume From owl by Sir Stephen, in Pauline Réage's novel. The question of gender, identity, normality, which the designer had already exploited in his previous works returns here with an increased force put into image by a magic drawing, breathtaking of purity. The line is clear, precise. The neutrality of tones is illuminated by shimmering colors that mark the eye. At each transformation of Francesca clothes, essential elements of identification, sparkle by their brightness. Full pages offer us breaths revealing the singer's masks, the appearances of diabolical metamorphoses, approaching and rubbing shoulders with the universe of vampirism.
The author, this time, takes an additional step in the fantastic for a dense story, which we reread on multiple times, in order to apprehend the identity of the protean characters.Everything is here only lie, deception, concealment.And reading pleasure.
After the last page of this imposing first volume, which makes us want to know the continuation immediately, we can already add a forty eighth string to the arc of Timothe Le Boucher: that of a huge talent.
