Contraception: the first unisex condom soon available?
In Malaysia, a gynecologist claims to have created "the world's first unisex condom". The latter, named "Wondaleaf", has an adhesive and flexible coating, which attaches to the vagina or penis. It will be available for sale from December.
Ingenious invention alert? John Tang Ing Chinh, a Malaysian gynecologist, created "the first unisex condom" - which is therefore suitable for people with penises as well as people with vaginas. Called "Wondaleaf", the latter looks like an ordinary condom, but with a little something extra: an adhesive and flexible coating, designed like a bandage, which attaches to the vagina or penis.
"The non-adhesive part of the condom can be turned inside or out to make it a male or female condom", summarizes John Tang Ing Chinh in a video. The adhesive part covers the entire genital area (see videos below) and thus offers "additional protection".

Like plasters, the Wondaleaf is made from polyurethane, a very thin, resistant and waterproof medical compound. "Once you put it on, you often don't feel it's there," says the gynecologist.
A "non-discriminatory" condom
While it is still too early to speak of a contraceptive revolution - the product will be on the market from December - John Tang Ing Chinh remains confident: "Given the number of clinical trials we have conducted, I am quite optimistic that in time it will be a real addition to the many methods of contraception used in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies and infections sexually transmitted."
The gynecologist goes even further, describing his invention as "non-discriminatory". "With this unisex condom, everyone is able to take charge of their own sexual health, regardless of gender or sexual orientation."
Sold in boxes of two on the Wondaleaf website from December, the price will be just over 3 euros.
