Felt X3 Courchevel 2021: a new success for a new format!

Indoor rowing, cycling, trail running. These are the three ingredients of FeltX3 in Courchevel, the event that won over many participants and achieved another success this Sunday August 15th.

They were 330 competitors, registered individually or as a team, to come and face the mountain yesterday in Courchevel for the FeltX3. The mountain, but not only...

Since last year, the summer sports event of the famous Savoyard resort begins with indoor rowing. 6000 meters to be accomplished on the formidable machine. And there was something for everyone: 100 ergometers were lined up on the floor of the Envolée gymnasium. A European first! A technical and logistical performance made possible thanks to the partnership signed between the town hall of Courchevel, the French Rowing Federation and the organizing club Courchevel Sports Outdoor supported this weekend by the teams of the AURA rowing league.

The festivities thus began on Saturday with demonstrations and introductions to indoor rowing, but also on the waters of Lac du Praz. An activity that was able to find its participants with no less than 75 people, while the next day's competitors collected their bibs.

The national technical director Sébastien Vieilledent was present, but another person had also decided to become there: Claire Bové , Olympic vice-champion in Tokyo, gladly lent herself to the game of autographs, as did Matthieu Androdias , Olympic champion in Tokyo, the next day. He also commented on his race, broadcast on a giant screen, and encouraged the participants as the sponsor of the event. Both received the medal of the city of Courchevel from the hands of Mayor Jean-Yves Pachod.

“I am very enthusiastic, expressed Anne Tollard , vice-president of the FFA in charge of development, in the future this event should be registered on the federal calendar in the same way as our other meetings. The FFA could possibly become more involved, for example through the presence of technical executives to further increase our presence. It's a great showcase for rowing to have a spot in Courchevel after the tour of the beaches, it opens up new opportunities with new formulas that include rowing”.

A beautiful, warm day was about to start in Courchevel with indoor rowing, with the voice of French rower, Sébastien Roure , on the microphone. A major advantage with the many rowers present, and whose commentator was able to present the prize list. To comment on the cycling and trail section, 2 other speakers specializing in outdoor sports were there with Sébastien Mowglie and Ludovic Collet who was celebrating his 50th birthday.

After having chained the 6000m of indoor rowing, the 12.2 km and 750m D+ of cycling and the 7.8km and 420m D+ of trail running under a magnificent sun, setting off from the Olympic ski jumping hills to land at the top of the altiport , the two defending champions confirmed their supremacy.

New coronation for Cédric Fleureton and Laura Deplanche

The start of this extraordinary triathlon got off to a flying start with the indoor rowing event. The French champion in the discipline in the 500m and bronze medalist of the reigning indoor rowing worlds Vincent Matz (20min18s) and the Dutch vice-champion of Europe in Eight 2021 Drenth Hermijntje (23min12s) sign the reference times. Finished in 61st position, the winner of the 2020 edition and crowned with an impressive track record in trail and triathlon, Cédric Fleureton made a great comeback by achieving the 2nd fastest time in cycling behind Maxence Janodet , winner of the climb in 35min11s. HE confirms his good dispositions by slamming the top lap on the trail in 34min49s and crossing the finish line as the winner of the scratch in 1h36min03s. He beat Will Juillaguet in 1h41min02s followed by double world champion rower Damien Piqueras in 1h48min22s.

Among the women, the same fight for Laura Deplanche , a member of the French ski mountaineering team who drew deep within herself to retain her title acquired in 2020. Coming out in 29th position in indoor rowing, Laura illustrated on the bike by digging a crippling gap on her pursuers (best time in 40min38s) which allowed her to cross the finish line in the lead in 1h57min26s. Ski mountaineer Margot Ravinel , bronze medalist in Sprint and Individual in ski mountaineering at the Games Youth Olympics in 2020, set the best time on the trail in 42:48.

The final podium is completed by the Slovak Marianna Jagercikova , vice-world champion in the sprint and bronze medalist in the general classification of the 2021 ski mountaineering world championships, second in 2h05min24s and by rower Aurélie Morizot , 4th in the 2021 World Cup in double sculls from Sabaudia (Italy), 3rd in 2h07min20s .

At the level of the trio teams, MagAviron had come in force: 2 for men and 1 for women. Mag Aviron2, represented by Victor Marcelot ( 2nd in lightweight quadruple (LM4x) at the European Championships in Varèse (ITA) in 2021), HugoBeurey (3rd in lightweight quadruple ( LM4x ) at the European Championship in Lucerne (SUI) in 2019) and Ferdinand Ludwig ( 2nd in lightweight quad (LM4x) at the European Championships in Varese (ITA)) won in 1h36min54s ahead of the "Ludwig Triolade" team made up of Florian, Fabian and Frédéric Ludwig second in 1h40min30s. The podium is completed by Louis Bertrand, Thomas Allain and Martin Bertrand (TeamArturo), 3rd in 1h42min11s .

Dutch domination in three women. Perfectly put on track by Drenth Hermijntje in indoor rowing, the “De Raketten” team completed by Diane Teste (cycling) and MarleenVerburgh (trail) won in 2h03min30. The women of "Mag Aviron 3", Maya and Emma Cornut Danjou and Josephine Cornélis climbed to the 2nd step in 2h08min37s ahead of the aptly named "La Croisière s'amuse" ( AlexandraViboux, Clémentine Garde and Marion Pignot-Dubost ), brave 3rd in 2h19min50s.

For the Mixed Trio category, the fight was fierce. The podium is held in less than 3 min. Final victory for the “Poseurs de Lino” in 1h49min31s with Lise Barra, Vincent Raffault and PierreHubert ahead of the “Go Fast” of Maxime Vicot, Clément Assier and MargotRavinel (1h51min24s). Winner of the Dynastar X3 on May 23, “LesCatalans” by Marc Romani, Biel Martinez and Julia Garriga complete the box in 1h52min52s.

Challenge X3 Courchevel 2021

The Challenge X3 2021 takes into account the cumulative times of the 2 extraordinary triathlons in Courchevel: the Dynastar X3 contested on May 23 and the Felt X3 this Sunday August 5.

Cédric Fleureton and LauraDeplanche emerge as the big winners of this challenge and respectively win the title of X3 Man and X3 Woman 2021. They are ahead of WillJuillaguet and Marianna Jagercikova (seconds) and Nicolas Raybaud and Christelle Zambon (third).

A memorable success that already makes the organizers want to look forward to August 14, 2022, the date of the third edition of this extraordinary triathlon!
