Melania Trump's colonial outfit is controversial during her trip to Kenya
During her trip to Kenya, Melania, Donald Trump's wife, opted for a colonial costume. Her outfit was strongly criticized on social networks as reported by Télé-Loisirs.
Melania Trump was on an official visit to Nairobi, Kenya on Friday, October 5. On this occasion, the First Lady of the United States paraded through the city's national park aboard an all-terrain car, dressed like Tintin in Tintin in the Congo. Melania Trump's attire has come under heavy criticism on social media: "That pith helmet you wore was used by the settlers during a very dark time in history. Who advised you? or “She's not here to have fun, it's not a vacation trip. She is supposed to be there for "diplomatic" and "humanitarian" reasons. Like all Trumps, she has no idea what that means. This hat, called a "Pith helmet" or "salacot", became a symbol of the colonial empire after being worn by colonists who owned slaves.
The reactions were divided on social networks since some quickly supported the ex-Miss: “People! Move on! My god, this woman can't even put on the right clothes for you. It's ordinary safari attire, for God's sake, not colonial attire.” Also one could read: “As a professor of African history, why don't you notice the difference between the helmets of the colonial forces and the safari helmet (which she wears)? One is probably inspired by the other, but so are Kepis sports caps. Does that mean I can't wear a cap below Mason Dixon's line? ".
