Monoki launches the most mystical fragrance of autumn

Beauty Hand-embroidered and blessed with Native American incantations, Diane Goldstein's bohemian kimonos have that extra soul that made Monoki so successful. An aura also due in large part to their very particular scent: a bewitching mixture imagined by a shaman, coupled with an essential oil of patchouli, sprayed on each creation and adored by customers. So much so that the designer decided to make a perfume out of it.

The scents that marked her life, her Californian inspirations, her passion for cards… Meeting with Diane Goldstein, creator of Monoki, on the occasion of the launch of her first perfume.

What were your criteria for choosing the ingredients for this perfume? Tell us about the creative process.

During my trips to California, I always brought home a spray incense, handcrafted by a Native American shaman. I coupled it with an essential oil of natural patchouli from Grasse, to form a pure shamanic elixir extract, which I began to spray on all my clothes. Faced with the demand for this very special imprint, I decided to market it, taking care to remove the "allergenic" side of the essential oil.

Your style is a mix of Parisian and Californian vibes. What Parisian, and Californian, did you breathe into this perfume?

At the heart of this juice, there is a call to travel, to let go, to the sensations, to the emotions provoked by the call of the California desert... All this blends with the vetiver found in the slightly masculine scents. , so reassuring. It is this mixture, in my eyes, which appeals to the two continents, and to the two styles.

How did your passion for cards, the spiritual and tarot inspire you to imagine this scent?

When we call on the cards to ask a question, we concentrate and refocus on ourselves. It was on the “suspended moment” facet that I wanted to play. The scent is very important in order to connect with the energies and the divine. It's like a door that opens.

In your opinion, what is the role of perfume in the field of spirituality?

Perfume acts as a medium for spiritual connection and openness, it cleanses the mind and offers it a blank slate. We are finally ready for the dimension of energies.

You present this perfume as the final touch of the sacred ritual of blessing kimonos. Can you explain to us what this ritual consists of? What is the precise role of perfume in this ritual?

When I spray my clothes, I do it with an intention. The intention to bring protection, transmit joy and good vibes by wearing Monoki. Once again, this perfume is a vector, which will permeate the kimonos and keep all the prayers active for a long time.

The reconnection to the earth, as to spirituality, is the idea behind your first perfume. What are your tips for refocusing?

Perfume is really my first element of reconnection, with meditation (which I practice at least 2 to 3 times a week when I can). Yoga is also a good way to let go and breathe, because everything goes through breathing.

What are the perfumes and scents that have marked your life?

I have always had a weakness for perfumes, already very young. I liked Eau d'Issey, then also Obsession by Calvin Klein and Stella Mc Cartney's perfume… Then I fell in love with Carnal Flower by Frederic Malle. But for eight years, it is my small artisanal production that accompanies me on a daily basis.

What are the scents that help you disconnect?

I'm crazy about vetiver, but in the evening I like to perfume myself with a little lavender to relax. I also brought back from India a body oil with Palo Santo, a pure wood that smells so good… I always have some in the office and in my room.

How would you describe the feeling one gets when wearing Monoki Eau de Parfum?

I think it's an essence that makes you travel, disconnect, reassures you and immerses you in a world of sensations, dreams and mystical images… With flashbacks of desert, full moon and precious.
