The moving recording of a dad giving birth to his wife and resuscitating his baby
On August 6, a couple hit the road because the woman is about to give birth. He will not have time to go to the maternity ward: around 3 a.m., the future dad, who stopped in the town of Nuaillé d'Aunis (Charente-Maritime) calls the firefighters because the work is close to ending. The recording of the call, broadcast by SDIS 17 on November 1, is very moving.
Dad resuscitates baby
As the recording begins, Dad explains the situation and says where they are. He specifies that he is touching the baby's head, which is already well into the vaginal canal. Barely has he time to say it that he exclaims: "I have my head in my hands there, he is out, he is out, he is with me!". The fire brigade operator then recommends that he rub his back and asks the father if the child is crying.
The tension goes up a notch when the dad replies that his newborn is not crying, not screaming, proof that he is not breathing yet. The firefighter then explains to him what he must do: "You put his head in your hand, you turn his face against your hand and you rub his back a little". Unfortunately, this is not enough. The father explains that something seems to be blocking his airways. To save the baby's life, the operator then indicates that he must suck out what is in his nostrils and check that there is nothing stuck in his mouth.
After a few seconds of unbearable silence, the mother takes the phone to explain the gestures made by her spouse. We then hear the baby start crying and screaming, proof that he is finally breathing! We feel the relief and the emotion in the voices of the parents, but also in that of the firefighter, who exclaims: "That's great, ok, that's great!". The recording ends while help is on the way and the call is transferred to the Samu, while the operator remains on the line to reassure the new parents.
A very moving recording! We congratulate the dad and the mom for having been able to keep their cool despite the terror they must have felt, as well as the firefighter for having saved the life of the baby.
