Advent #3.Bluebuck: underwear, socks and swimming shorts in organic and recycled materials
From December 1 to 24, we highlight a committed and responsible brand every day!The opportunity to help you spoil your loved ones (or have fun!) With gifts that make sense.Zoom on our favorite of the day.
Today, we present you a brand of responsible underwear for men.His goal ?Limit your carbon footprint as much as possible using organic cotton and woven wires from plastics recovered at sea and recycled. And that's not all, since BlueBuck also chooses a 100 % European manufacturing by favoring the use of renewable energy in its factories.Pierre David, at the origin of the project, tells us more about these comfortable underwear and designed to last!Discovery.
Can you introduce your project to us?
Bluebuck's central idea is to say that we all have a role to play, at your own level, even modest, to meet the climate challenge. This can be in his business, looking for means of action to minimize his impact on the environment and his greenhouse gas emissions.Or it can be as a consumer, by choosing products offering quality and longevity, and with a lesser carbon footprint.
BlueBuck, it is at the start a brand of underwear for men.But since its creation, I have also widened the range with tshirts, socks and swim shorts.
The entire BlueBuck manufacturing chain has been designed to minimize CO2 emissions.I worked on each stages, starting with the production of raw materials (the cultivation of organic cotton for example), then taking interest in the manufacture of wire and fabric, dyeing and finish (which are veryenergy delicious), and finally the making of clothes. At each of these stages, we favor the use of renewable energies and we seek energy efficiency.
We also try to minimize the distances between different suppliers. Most of them are within a radius of 50 km in Portugal. Some suppliers are in other European countries, because we had not found suppliers in Portugal offering the quality we are looking for.For example, our elastic belts come from Austria or France, and our fabric labels are made in Italy.
Today I can say that I know all the suppliers of the production chain - except cotton growers. But I only use cotton certified GOTS (Global Organic Trading Standards) to guarantee its provenance. And our clothing factory is a small family business, in which three generations work (the founding grandmother, her daughter and her grandson).
In the end, BlueBuck products are all designed to last a long time.I work a lot on colors, on the quality of materials and touch, I want all products to give as much pleasure today as in several years. The fabrics are both super soft and very solid, the seams are very resistant.
How does your product or service help make the world a little better?
I want to encourage my customers to consume less, but consume better. To buy quality products that last, so that can be worn for a long time and will not have to be replaced quickly.

I'm also interested in the impact that the production of raw materials on the environment. The cultivation of organic cotton is much less polluting than the cultivation of conventional cotton, it generates less greenhouse gas - but it remains greedy in water.
For my new collections, I try to reduce the share of virgin raw materials, and I use more recycled materials.I already use Seaqual wires, to make bath shorts and underwear from plastics recovered at sea and recycled.I am also developing underwear and recycled cotton socks, which will allow large virgin cotton savings, to consume less energy, and to avoid the use of dyes.
Bluebuck est-elle « climate neutral » ?
No, I think this concept of climate neutrality (neutral climate) is misleading. We cannot really compensate, neutralize the greenhouse gases that we issue today, by buying credits for good deeds that will only be effective in the future. It does not mean that wanting to compensate for your emissions is a bad thing, on the contrary - but it is not enough. What is even better is to reduce your emissions now.
What message do you want to convey through your action?
In France and in each country of the world, ecological awareness has been anchored in our societies for two years, especially since the COVVID and more recently with the COP26.The challenge of climate change is immense, but I am also optimistic and I am sure that progress will go by accelerating in the coming years.
And we all have a role to play in taking up this challenge: at the local level, in his city, in his company. And also in its consumption choices.Even if greenwashing spreads and can sometimes create confusion, I think consumers know better and better identify the big companies that make beautiful speeches that are not in line with their practices.
In a few words, why do you advise our readers to offer your products to their loved ones for Christmas?
Bluebuck products are of course eco -responsible, but they are first super pretty, they are well cut, are very comfortable, extremely soft to the touch, and designed to last ...
BlueBuck is also a member of 1% for the Planet (we donate 1% of our annual sales to nature defense organizations).
This year, we have decided to support Amazonian defense associations, Brazil and Peru.We have sent washable masks to the NGO Coaib (Coordination of the Indigennizations of the Brazilian Amazon) to be distributed to populations living in the heart of the Amazon forest. They are the best caretakers in the forest today. And we made donations to the Rainforest Alliance association.
