Amy Winehouse's wardrobe at auction for $1 million to $2 million
800 articles belonging to the singer who died in 2011 will be available for sale by Julien's auctions next month in California.
Dozens of dresses-including the famous Amy Winehouse wore at her last dramatic concert a month before her death in 2011-books, records, bags and objects that belonged to the British soul diva will be auctioned in California in November.
Julien's auctions have been exhibiting since Monday in New York a sample of more than 800 dresses, bustiers, trousers, shorts, shoes, underwear, glasses, musical instruments, books and records valued at "one to two million dollars" in total, prior to an auction in Beverly Hills on November 6 and 7.
"the subject is very sensitive and it took them a long time to agree to donate (the objects), realising, of course, that fans, museums, collectors from all over the world will want to own these items," he added.
Preserving the "legacy and memory" of the singer
According to him, Amy Winehouse's parents, Mitch and Janis, want this sale to preserve their daughter's "legacy and memory" and raise funds for their foundation to help young adults suffering from drug and alcohol addiction.
The British artist, who received several awards for her back to Black album in 2006, has always talked about her personal experiences of addiction to alcohol and drugs in songs steeped in jazz and soul.
"an icon of fashion"
Her last concert in June 2011 in Belgrade had struck the minds when, obviously drunk, she was booed and whistled by the audience, some of whom had left the hall. The tour had been cancelled and Amy Winehouse died a month later.
Clothing is estimated at $15,000 to $20,000. "all these dresses represent Amy, a fantastic musician, but also a fashion icon," said Martin Nolan.
Like musicians Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse was added to the infamous "Club 27" of artists who died at the age of 27.
