Back to school – A school in Upper Valais bans “provocative clothing”
At the Orientation Cycle in Gampel (VS), no more bare backs and stomachs, leggings, strapless tops, deep necklines or mini shorts. Penalties for non-compliance were not disclosed.
Benjamin PillardWhile most secondary schools in the country specify in their internal regulations that students are required to dress appropriately, some establishments expressly mention clothing that has no place in class. The Orientation Cycle of Gampel (VS), about fifteen kilometers from Sierre, has modified its directives in this direction for the start of the school year (from next Monday in the canton), reported our colleagues from “Walliser Bote”. “The wearing of provocative clothing is not authorized”, stipulates article 14. Amongst which, “among others”, strapless tops, deep necklines, but also transparent clothing, showing the belly or the back. Exposed underwear is also banned, as are shorts arriving “less than 10 cm from the crotch”. Finally, leggings are only allowed during gym classes.
