Two French women launch the Libred menstrual panties, more freedom and comfort!
New alternative to hygienic stamps and towels, menstrual pants, designed to absorb blood of the rules over several hours, is both ecological and comfortable.Star in the United States and France, it could well conquer Romania thanks to Libréa, the brand of menstrual underwear 100% Made in Romania, launched by two French women, Laurence Blondiaux and Anouk Ragot.Meet...
Laurence and Anouk, you are both French and you decided to settle in Romania in 2016 and 2018?Why did you choose this country?
First for questions of professional opportunity. Two expressions summarize our link with Romania: we cry twice, the first time when we arrive in Romania (we often have a false image of this country) and the second time when we leave (difficult not to attach to RomaniansAnd their desire to progress to explosive speed, as well as to the nature and traditions that we discover there).Romania is the best kept secret in Europe, protect it that it does not change too fast!
How did the idea for Librea and menstrual panties come to you?
At the origin of Libréa, it is a meeting around a common idea, a particular moment, and the energy and the desire to impact positively, all this in a favorable context!First there was a meeting: we shared the same circle of friends without really knowing each other.During a dinner in early 2021 we realized that we shared much more: the values of mutual aid, the desire to push the status quo, the love of Romania and the audacity to challenge itself while havingadditional professional skills.
Second there was a good idea.I had just offered menstrual panties "to take care of me" during Christmas, innovation made noise in France. It changed my experience during the rules and I had a glaring desire to share this with my friends.I realized that such a product did not exist in my adopted country.Laurence discovered menstrual panties thanks to her teenager. She was looking for a healthy and comfortable product to pass the cap from puberty.
There was also a special moment, because the COVVI-19 having suspended our activities, we accompanied our young children for a year and a half online school. This upheaval accelerated our desire to engage and act to improve the lives of women.
Finally, there has been a favorable context because, yes, Romania is a conducive place to embark on a new adventure. This is one of the aspects that we particularly like here, we put less barriers to materialize an idea.Things go fast and simply.
Do they meet a specific need you have received in Romanian women?
With the new comfort/well-being trend and awareness around the environment and health, there is a real need for healthy quality alternatives. We had led a survey and discussion groups at the start of the year to meet Romanian women who convinced us that menstrual panties have their place here.
Everything is 100% made in Romania. What are the difficulties you face?
As it is important to us to promote Romania and producing near our customers allows us to go to the end of our environmental approach, we started here from zero with fabrics on the Obor market and our sewing machine!
Difficulties, yes, of course, this is our first experience of start-ups and we are going abroad, it is necessarily spicy! To cite some of them: one of our sewing workshops has closed due to COVVI-19 in the last 3 weeks, fabrics that have lost themselves on the way, arrived 6 weeks late or even infinite space-timeWho hides behind the expression “Imediat” ...
But there have also been so many great surprises: a strong mutual aid between the French from abroad, and many entrepreneurs / Romanian partners / influencers who support our initiative. They notably appreciated the “made in Romania” and our mission.Thank you to our guardian angels who will recognize themselves in this adventure!

Isn't the question of menstruation a little taboo in Romania?
The Romanian expression to say that we have his rules is “sunt pe stop”, literally “I am stopped” ... To understand, we have talked a lot about this intimate subject with unknowns,By juggling between Romanian, French and English ... we heard many traumatic experiences of women when they were teenagers.
In Romania, hygienic protections have appeared in free access only since the 1990s. Female hygiene products are not yet recognized as basic necessities and VAT is 19%.In France and in several countries currently, we are talking about “buffer tax” with 5% reduced VAT on these products. There are also no automatic distributors in public places.
There is a real menstrual poverty that would concern around 1 million girls and women (+ 5% of the Romanian population), due to a lack of access to information or products. We support two local NGOs, @Pestop and @ielesanziene, who do a great job of education and awareness. We encourage you to follow them! All these taboos are unfortunately present worldwide.
Do you define your brand as a "feminist" brand?
Yes, we want to improve the daily life of women, not by revolt or frustration but because the world has evolved quickly and that the place of women has become more and more complex to apprehend. Our own experience of acrobats between family, well-being and career, motivates our actions. We want to develop mentalities by inspiring, educating and providing serious alternatives. We position ourselves as a "Feel Good" brand. Our models of models are not retouched because Libed is a human brand, simple and benevolent, which offers high quality products at the best price. When a client takes the time to write to us that her day is easier thanks to our freed menstrual panties, our joy is indescribable ... This is our real engine!
Do you not find that there is, in general, a lack of innovation in the field of female hygiene?
At the bend of a conversation with a friend, he spontaneously told me "if men had rules, it's been a long time that we would have found a solution" ... This expression marked me because it is notFar from the truth, few women appreciate the rules: 83%* have already had red spots in public with, for 76%* of them, a feeling of panic and anxiety, and 27%* that improvise aSolution to "MacGyver" in the toilet ... not to mention irritation, yeast infection, changing moods, increased fatigue and 12,000 non -recyclable plastic protections that each woman throws in her life ...
The recent testimonies of our customers are unanimous: “I discover another level of freedom and confidence!”, “The rules are no longer a concern, I am in the process of re-applying the approach to the other subjects that I was undergoing to seeIf I can do something differently ",“ APROAPE CA am uitat ca sunt pe menstruatie! MULUTUMESC ”.
